Privacy Policy

Scallergy ("we", "the app") is a personal allergen scanner. This policy explains what data we handle and why. The short version: we collect only what the app needs to work, we never sell data, and you can delete everything at any time.

What we collect

Account data. When you sign in with Google or Apple we receive your name, email address (Apple lets you hide it), and a unique account identifier. We use this solely to create and secure your account.

Allergen lists. The allergens you select, their severity, and the names you give your lists. This is health-related information; it is used exclusively to compute scan verdicts on your device and to sync your lists across your devices. We never use it for advertising or profiling, and we never share it.

Scan history. The barcodes you scan, the verdict at scan time, and a snapshot of the allergens that matched. Used to show your history and recent scans. You can delete individual history or all of it from the app.

Product data. When you scan a barcode, the barcode is sent to our product database and, when needed, to USDA FoodData Central and/or Open Food Facts to retrieve ingredient information. These requests contain the barcode only — never your identity or your allergen lists.

App analytics. The app sends usage events to PostHog (hosted in the United States) so we can understand what works and fix what doesn't: app opens, scan outcomes (found / not found / error, which database answered, the verdict category, and the scanned barcode), product submissions, your device model and Android version, and — on first launch — which link the install came from (Google Play install referrer). Events are tied to a random account identifier, never to your name or email, and your allergen selections are never sent to analytics. We use this data only to improve the app; it is not shared or sold. To have your analytics data deleted, email us (deleting your account removes our database records; analytics deletion is handled on request).

Waitlist. If you join the waitlist on our website we store the email address you enter (on Cloudflare infrastructure) and use it only to tell you about the launch. One email request removes it.

Website analytics. The scallergy.app website uses Google Analytics, which sets cookies to count visits and understand which pages are read. This applies to the website only, not the app.

Advertising measurement (Meta). The app includes the Meta (Facebook) SDK so that installs coming from our ads on Meta platforms can be measured. The SDK sends Meta your device's advertising identifier and standard app events (install, app open); Meta processes this under its own data policy. Your allergen lists, scans, and account details are never shared with Meta. You can reset or delete your advertising ID in Android settings (Privacy → Ads).

Where it lives

Your account, allergen lists, and scan history are stored with our backend provider, Supabase (hosted in the United States), protected by row-level security so only your signed-in account can access your records. A copy of your lists and recent products is cached on your device for offline use. Our website, waitlist, and product-lookup cache run on Cloudflare; app usage analytics are processed by PostHog (US). Email sent to contact@scallergy.app is routed to our inbox by Cloudflare Email Routing.

What we don't do

No ads. No selling or renting data. No data brokers. No brand can pay to influence a verdict. Analytics never receives your allergen lists, name, or email — and we collect nothing we don't use to run or improve Scallergy.

Deleting your data

In the app: Profile → Settings & account → Delete account & all data. This permanently removes your account, allergen lists, and scan history from our servers and clears the app's local data. Details: data deletion.

Children

Scallergy is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their data.
