E966 — Lactitol

A sweetener (sugar alcohol) manufactured from lactose, the milk sugar — common in sugar-free candy and low-calorie baking.

Allergen connection

Derived from milk, so it must be traceable to milk on EU labels. The finished additive is essentially protein-free, so the concern is mainly for severe milk allergy — discuss thresholds with your allergist. Not suitable advice-wise for lactose intolerance decisions either way.
